I heard that IAMS was not involved in the product recalls in South Africa. What is the current status?
All IAMS Cat Foods sold in South Africa are safe to feed. They are not affected by the pet food recalls in South Africa, North America or any other country

I know your products are 100% safe to feed but how can you help me reassure my family and friends as well?
We are foremost pet lovers and pet owners ourselves. And because consumer confidence has been affected by the recent recall we have an open and transparent document that clearly shows the promises we make to you to show our commitment to both quality and safety. What is the main protein source in your diets?
The philosophy of IAMS is to feed dogs and cats as nature intended and so we use animal based proteins as the principal source of this ingredient. Chicken, poultry, fish, egg and lamb are all high quality proteins with a high Biological Value (a measure of how well these proteins are retained by the body to be used to build muscles and other key tissues)

What are the carbohydrates in your diets?
We use wheat, maize (corn), sorghum, barely, and rice. All are excellent sources of energy and are perfectly safe to feed. It is important to clarify that the ingredients wheat gluten, corn gluten and rice protein concentrate ARE NOT the same as wheat, corn, and rice respectively.

Do you use any corn (maize) in your IAMS products?
Yes, we use the ingredient corn (maize) in some diets as it�s an excellent carbohydrate source. It is one of our four key Pillars of Nutritional Health. Corn is not part of any recall and it�s NOT THE SAME ingredient as corn (maize) gluten. Iams� corn is sourced from Europe and not from China or the Far East.

Do you use any cereal (vegetable) proteins from China?
No, we do not source any cereal (vegetable) proteins from China.

What is gluten?
Gluten is a mixture of proteins found combined with starch in some cereals. The gluten can be extracted from cereals and used as a separate protein ingredient. You will see these specific ingredients (generically referred to as cereal/vegetable proteins) listed as �wheat gluten�, �corn gluten� (sometimes �maize gluten meal�), and �rice gluten� (rice protein concentrate). We use animal based ingredients as our main source for proteins in our diets.

What other ingredients do you use for my pets� health?
IAMS bases its diets on four Pillars of Nutritional Health. The first is to use animal based proteins as our principal source of this essential ingredient. The second is to use the fibre beet pulp to help promote gut health. A balance of special oils (omega 6 & 3) that help promote a healthy skin and coat is our third pillar. And, the fourth is to use high quality carbohydrates that give better control of glucose entering the body. All our products are complete and balanced and we offer a complete life stage, lifestyle and special needs line-up.
